Here we are! Me and the best companion/trainer in the world, we're the most attractive people you will ever meet in your life!
This week has been absolutely insane! It started off with us not being able to see ANYBODY! it was kind of frustrating, I swear every house that we would knock on we could see people inside and hear them and they would either run out of the room or shush everyone inside haha. I guess that's missionary life though right? We tried to see Glenn all week but his mom would never answer the door when we stopped by so we were thinking about dropping them because there was no way to get in contact with him and his mom wasn't very much help but then we got a call from their social worker. She is a LDS and she told us that Genna felt like we were pressuring her into getting baptized when all we did was extend the invitation. We said "as you come to know these things are true, would you be willing to be baptized by that proper authority." apparently that was too soon I guess. Their social worker said that it wasn't our faults though, Genna is a really flaky person but she agreed that Glenn would be the one from the family to progress. So we decided to go back next week and talk to them.
We also started teaching a less active, Glenn King. He texted us out of the clear blue one day and asked if he could meet with us. He left on his mission when he was 19 but came home early and never went back to church, he said that he felt like he failed so he never went back. But he said that he would like to go on a mission someday, he's 24 now and you can tell he still has a testimony which is huge. He has that desire to come back but he's struggling with a lot of temptations right now and has a hard time keeping commitments.
On Tuesday we went to zone conference which was fantastic! It was in the middle of Detroit though and I see why everyone calls it a third world country. (Mom, before you freak out it was safe because we were all together and they wouldn't let us drive separately so we all went in car pools.) I had to put that in there because I know as soon as I said Detroit everyone would go crazy haha. It is definitely a scary, horrible place but there are bad parts of town everywhere you go, plus we had the Lord on our side so I wasn't worried. Anyway the church that we met in was an old orthodox church surrounded by a bunch of abandoned apartment buildings haha, it's like as far ghetto as you can get. Our whole zone gathered there and we had an amazing meeting about the atonement by president Gerber. He teaches so powerfully, he could totally be an apostle some day haha.
Sister Mickelsen and I also spoke on Sunday and it went really well. Everybody came up to us and said how much they were able to feel the spirit, I wish you guys could've been there, it was pretty powerful. We told everyone it was Heavenly Father's doing not ours. Then we were running all over the place at church. One of our investigators Aliece came to church but got lost so we had to run and find her and take her to young womens, then we had to teach a short lesson about the resurrection of Christ to the nursery and primary class. We pretended that I was Mary Magdolene and Sister Micklesen was a nephite woman who had seen the savior so we told our stories. The kids loved it! Then we had to run to the Sunday school class and talk to them about what a typical day for a missionary was, which was fun, and on top of that we got a new investigator! It was insane!
Andrea is the name of the investigator and she has a daughter named Hailey, their story is so cool! Andrea has never really been religious and they were supposed to go to church with one of their friends who was Catholic. They somehow missed that and were on their way home when they passed by our church, our church is right in the middle of a Baptist and Catholic church (remember that). Her daughter who is 4 years old says "Turn here mom, we have to go to that church.) Which just so happened to be ours. They went in and ended up loving everything about it and has come for the last 3 weeks! She has so many questions and we got to teach her the first lesson yesterday after church and we're going back today at 5. Holy cow the spirit is intense, it even speaks to 4 year olds! She has already accepted to be baptized sometime all because her Hailey said turn here.
I freaking love this gospel and everything it does for us I'm grateful to be here, I know I was sent here for a reason. Sister Mickelsen and I loved the packaged by the way she says to tell you mom, she thinks you're cute haha. Jaimee! I'm so excited for you and the play and track. I wish I could be there for it but I know you'll do great, keep up the good work and take care of mom:) Heavenly Father loves all of you as do I, gospel's true!
Love, Sister Gordon
