Email May 12, 2014

Hey everybody! This week was great as usual. I hope all of you had a fantastic Mother's Day, I know I did. All you moms out there are pretty fantastic but not as cool as my amazing mom Teresa Gordon! haha. I love you mom and I'm so glad I got to talk to you, you're such an incredible person and I'm so lucky to have you as a mom, you raised us three girls well! I love you too Randee, Jaimee, Kyle, and Dad! (I couldn't forget about you guys). So we're teaching this guy named Reggie and he's a single black man about in his 30's and he is probably my favorite person ever. Last time I told you he didn't have a very high education level and I had to teach him how to pray. Sister Mickelsen and I have to teach him really slow but we called him Saturday to see if he would come to church with us and he was like "No way, I'm afraid to go to church." we asked why and he said "You told me the Holy Ghost is in there! I already have a ghost in my apartment I don't need another one!" haha we were doing everything we could not to burst out laughing. it was the best thing I've ever heard in my life but we explained it to him. Just wait it gets better, so we went to see him Saturday night and when we got to his apartment we rang the buzzer thing and he called us and was freaking out because he cut his finger and told us we needed to come up right now. We ran upstairs to see him and it was a tiny cut on his thumb from a knife. He was still freaking out though and we tried to calm him down but he kept saying he needed to call the ambulance. Thank goodness though Sister Mickelsen is a nurse so she just told him to put pressure on it and it stopped bleeding. We told him we were going to be right back because we were going to get some Band-Aids for him and we left and called him as soon as we got to the store to see if he needed anything and he wouldn't answer. We drove back to the apartment and, of course, HE CALLED THE AMBULANCE! We were gone for like two minutes but he was freaking out because it was still bleeding. It still gets a whole lot better, so we parked in the parking lot not really knowing what to do and he walked out with the paramedics and got in the ambulance just to take a short ride to the hospital to put a band aid on the cut, which is what we were going to get him in the first place! We were laughing pretty hard, but believe it or not he's progressing really well. He accepted the Book Of Mormon and said he would read it everyday haha he's the best. We also met this Indian family Thomas, Sybil and their two boys. Their Christian and Thomas is a pastor and a church called Assembly Of God. We had the most intense lesson with them on Friday. We have talked to them a couple times before and he is really confused and had a lot of questions but all of his questions linked back to the Book Of Mormon. So Friday we went there and gave him the book and he was trying to argue with every single thing we said. He kept saying "Why do I need another book? I already have my bible." and every time we would try to explain he would just interrupt us and try and argue and we realized it wasn't going to do any good no matter what we said, so we read the last two paragraphs of the introduction page and after we read it Sister Mickelsen looked up and looked him straight in the eyes and said "I know that the Book Of Mormon is the word of God." That was all she said but the power that was from those simple words was INCREDIBLE! After we left I was telling her how awesome that was and how the spirit filled the entire room and everybody was silent and she told me that was not her speaking. Heavenly Father is soooo real!! Sorry my emails kind of short but those were the two biggest things that happened this week. Did you know that there is such a thing called spiritual exhaustion? Yeah that's pretty much how this week went haha. It just goes to show you that testimonies are one of the most powerful tools you can use and no matter what the spirit is always right there to back up everything you just said it's the coolest feeling in the world. It reminds me in the Book Of Mormon you know how in the first chapter it talks about Lehi and all the visions he saw? There's a verse in there that says Lehi cast himself on his bed being so overcome with the spirit. We decided that both Sister Mickelsen and my names should be in there too haha jk jk. Well I hope you all have a wonderful week and I will talk with you guys soon! I love you all and the gospel's true! Sister Gordon
